Beyond Aid: A Palestinian Private Sector Initiative for Investment, Growth and Employment

During 2013 The Portland Trust, in partnership with a number of Palestinian business leaders, launched an initiative to develop a vision and create a practical plan of action to promote private sector-led, long-term growth and sustainable job creation in the Palestinian economy.

Between January and August 2013, The Portland Trust worked alongside a professional team from McKinsey & Company in Ramallah, conducting extensive analysis and consultation with over 250 key stakeholders from all over the West Bank, as well as local and international experts from across a wide range of economic sectors. The results of the analysis were presented in the Beyond Aid report, published in November 2013.

Beyond Aid presents general strategies and identifies investment opportunities in five high-potential sectors, selected for their long-term potential to contribute to economic growth and employment generation: Agriculture, Construction, Information Technology and Digital Entrepreneurship, Energy and Tourism. This initiative has been broadly recognised as a valuable platform to help drive economic transformation in Palestine. The Portland Trust continues to support a number of projects and catalytic interventions across some of the prioritised sectors

The Portland Trust is a British non-profit ‘action tank’ whose mission is to promote peace and stability between Israelis and Palestinians through economic development.
